‘Proud of Iran’: Mehbooba Mufti hails Tehran’s resistance against U.S and Israel

Former Jammu Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has voiced strong support for Iran amid the country’s escalating confrontation with the United States and Israel.

Praising Iran’s “brave resistance,” she said Tehran was “fighting like lions” and refusing to surrender to global superpowers.

Her remarks come in the wake of Iran’s missile attacks on U.S. military bases in Qatar and Iraq on June 23, a retaliatory move after U.S. airstrikes targeted Iranian nuclear sites.

According to reports, most of the missiles were intercepted, with minimal damage reported. Iran is believed to have warned Qatar in advance, suggesting the strike was more symbolic than destructive.

Mehbooba invoked the legacy of Imam Ali (A.S) in her statement, aligning Iran’s actions with historical defiance against oppression.

She also took aim at Israel and the United States for stoking violence in the region. “It is not Iran that is asking for a ceasefire — even Donald Trump is urging restraint now,” she said.

The comments follow reports that Israel has reached out to multiple countries seeking to broker a ceasefire with Iran. While former U.S. President Donald Trump claimed a “complete and total” ceasefire had been agreed, Iran denied any formal understanding, and missile exchanges reportedly continued even after the announcement.

Mehbooba’s support highlights a growing current of political solidarity across sections of South Asia with Iran’s position, as the region watches the unfolding West Asian crisis with concern.
