JK Bank officer says he was abducted, beaten in Achabal over loan refusal; police files FIR

A Jammu Kashmir Bank official has alleged that he was kidnapped and assaulted by unidentified persons on the evening of July 29 after he reportedly refused to approve a loan.

Saqib Mohammed, posted as Advance Manager at J&K Bank’s Tailwani Achabal branch, said the incident took place around 8 p.m. while he was on his way home to Anantnag via Gopalpora. “I usually take the same route home. My senior was leading the way and I was following in my car. Suddenly, another vehicle stopped in front of me. When I honked, a man came out, pulled me from my car, and started beating me. Soon others joined in and assaulted me until I lost consciousness,” Saqib told.

He added that when he regained consciousness around 8:30 p.m., he found himself in a house, surrounded by a group of people, some of whom he recognized. “They asked why I was not approving their loan. When I told them I couldn’t give them money, they demanded a car. They were planning to kill me,” he said.

Saqib said that police arrived at the location around 1:30 a.m. and rescued him.
