A tell-all book written by former Jammu Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik remains unpublished and its whereabouts unknown after his death on Tuesday. As reported by The Indian Express, Malik had nearly completed the manuscript but hid it, fearing government raids and suppression.
The book, tentatively titled The Truth About Kashmir, reportedly spans around 200 pages. Malik had described it as “explosive,” promising revelations on critical decisions made during his tenure, including the dissolution of the J&K Assembly in 2018, the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, and alleged lapses in the Pulwama attack that killed 40 soldiers.
“There was no inquiry, no accountability. All of this will be in my book,” Malik had said in an interview. He claimed the government denied air support to CRPF personnel prior to the attack.
After stepping down as Meghalaya Governor in 2022, Malik said he relocated the manuscript to a secret location, citing fears of retaliation. His home was later raided by the CBI in 2024.
Now, following his death at 79, questions remain whether the manuscript will ever surface. One of his aides confirmed the book was “almost done” but offered no clue about its location.
Malik, a veteran politician, served as Governor of Bihar, Goa, Meghalaya, and most significantly, Jammu and Kashmir. He was known for his outspoken views, especially on the central government’s role in Kashmir and Pulwama.
