No rise in Jhelum during last one hour at Srinagar, decline expected in coming hours

The water level of river Jhelum showed signs of easing on Wednesday night, with gauges indicating a fall in south Kashmir and steady levels in Srinagar.

According to the 10:00 PM readings issued by the Irrigation and Flood Control Department, the Jhelum was flowing at 22.89 feet at Sangam, 21.10 feet at Ram Munshi Bagh in Srinagar, and 12.08 feet at Asham in north Kashmir.

At Pampore, the level stood at 6.07 meters.

When compared to the 9:00 PM readings, Sangam has dropped from 23.12 feet to 22.89 feet, while Asham has gone up slightly from 11.99 feet to 12.08 feet.

At Ram Munshi Bagh in Srinagar, the water level has remained steady at 21.10 feet, with no further rise reported. Officials said this steadiness is a key indicator that levels are now expected to recede gradually.

Locals told The Kashmiriyat that the river breached a bank in Shalina area of Pampore, however, with the intervention of locals the water was prevented from entering the residential areas.
