‘Shrieks of Man being Tortured Resounded on a Mosque Loudspeaker’- The Abrogation of Article 370

Article 370 granting partial special status to Jammu Kashmir was abrogated on the 05th of August by the majoritarian Bhartiya Janta Party, the move was followed by a massive crackdown in which civilians, religious clerics, journalists, lawyers, business leaders, civilians and politicians were detained, also the Government festooned down Jammu Kashmir. Concertina wires were placed across almost every street and bridge.Government forces manned hundreds of checkpoints and helicopters circled low above the Srinagar city. Under this, intimidating lockdown, internet and other mobile services were banned in the Kashmir valley.

The Associated Press Reported, “Residents of over a dozen villages in Kashmir said that the soldiers inflicted beatings and electric shocks, forced them to eat dirt or drink filthy water, poisoned their food supplies or killed livestock, and threatened to take away and marry their female relatives. Thousands of young men have been arrested.”
