Amid Indo- China Standoff, Indian Air Force Runway Strip Being Constructed in Kashmir

After the Chinese Forces reportedly annexed 40-60 Kilometres of the Indian territory during the current standoff between the Asian neighbours, China and India, a runway strip just besides the National Highway in Islamabad (Anantnag) district has created panic among the locals.

A Top security official upon being contacted said that this ‘Emergency Strip’ has nothing to do with the current standoff between India and China along the Line of actual control, he said, adding that, the runways have been built in other parts of Jammu Kashmir and in other Indian states as well.

He said that runway being built on the Srinagar-Jammu Highway near Sangam in Islamabad (anantnag) district on the NH 44 is nearly 3.5-km-long and currently the level of the strip is being regularized.

Sources told The Kashmiriyat that the work is being done under the dark of the night after labourers were given special passes to work and this work has been interestingly given to a South Kashmir based construction company.

He said that the labours were secretly carried to the Deputy commissioner’s office in the Islamabad (Anantnag) district, and later carried secretly inside vehicles to the spot. The DC of the Islamabad (Anantnag) did not pick the phone despite several attempts by The Kashmiriyat.

A National media report quoting Regional Manager of the National Highways Authority of India, confirmed the construction of this Runway strip along the National Highway.

Some photos of this proposed land for the construction of the runway strip are being circulated on the Social media networking sites including facebook and twitter.

The Army has said that they are not aware of any such developments.
