
Panic gripped Kashmir’s Shopian District on Wednesday after the dead body of an abducted civilian was found at an apple orchard in the district.
A Police official told The Kashmiriyat the body was found having ‘torture marks’ suggesting the victim being severely tortured before his killing.
The Official identified the dead person as Tariq Ahmed Paul, who was abducted on Tuesday after he was kidnapped by unknown gunmen from his village Pinjoora in Shopian.
His body was found from Kungnoo Turkwangam area about 10 km away from his village.
IGP kashmir Vijay Kumar, while confirming the incident, said that the body was found in an isolated spot and it had torture marks.
Four militants were killed in the house of Tariq a couple of days ago at Pinjoora.
The Police official said that a case has been registered and investigations in this matter continue.
Earlier in the day, security forces killed five militants after hours long gunfight in Sugoo Hendhama area of Shopian, a total of 14 militants have been eliminated in the last three days in the southern Kashmir district.
So far 20 Militants have been killed in the month of June, the identity of the slain militants is yet to be ascertained.
Mobile internet has been suspended in the Shopian district for precautionary measures.
