April 02

The Government forces today indiscriminate firing upon protesters inside the district hospital in Shopian township after clashes erupted in the south Kashmir area.

Eyewitnesses told The Kashmiriyat that after the funeral of the local militant, Zubair Ahmed Turray killed in an encounter, the forces fired tear smoke shells toward people. “Clashes spread to all nearby areas and the forces soon entered the hospital to retrieve the dead body of the slain militant Zubair Turray,” they said.

The youth present inside the hospital in large numbers did not allow them to take the body away and this led to massive arguments and soon there was firing all over, they said.

After the indiscriminate firing inside Shopian Hospital by government forces the doctors have presented a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, Shopian.

The memorandum was presented saying that Hospitals are neutral spaces that should not be targeted in any case.

The Government Forces however have said that a few youths near the hospital pelted stones at government forces and they resorted to aerial firing to disperse them.

“It is a matter of great shame that forces personnel resorted to indiscriminate firing inside the premises of district hospital when they barged into the hospital to retrieve a dead body, Dr Suhail Naik, President Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) said in a statement.
