Religious Organization’s Head Booked under Sedition in Baderwah

Police on Saturday registered a case against the president of Bhadarwah’s leading religious association, Anjuman-e-Islamia, for allegedly making provocative statements in a Friday sermon.

According to police, a case was registered against Pervez Ahmed Sheikh for violating the orders of the district magistrate in Bhaderwah Town of District Doda.

The President of Anjuman-e-Islamia has been booked under Sections 124A (Sedation) and 153A (Promoting animosity between different groups on the basis of religion, race, place of birth), 505B, Epidemiology Act 188 IPC.

Earlier, the police reviewed the address of Friday’s gathering at Jamia Masjid Bhaderwah and decided to register a case.

A Police official said that Pervez Ahmed Sheikh’s speech was provocative, deliberate and based on national animosity. He further said that Sheikh’s intention was to create instability in the society and senior officials of Bhaderwah police were investigating the matter.

His family members speaking to The Kashmiriyat repudiated all such allegations & said “He is being targeted for his political beliefs.”
