Chairman of the People’s Conference, Sajad Lone, was released from house detention today after almost a year. The former Member of Legislative Assembly from the Handwara constituency tweeted that he was officially informed, that he is now a free man.
Describing his experience in his tweet Sajad Lone tweeted “Finally 5 days short of a year I have been officially informed that I am a free man. So much has changed. So have I. Jail was not a new experience. Earlier ones were harsh with usual doses of physical torture. But this was psychologically draining. Much to share hopefully soon.”
Lone was arrested on 5th August’19, and was detained in MLA Hostel, Srinagar after the Center revoked Article 370. After spending six months in preventive custody, he was shifted to his government accommodation and put under house arrest. Hundreds of senior opposition leaders, and supporters were arrested last year after the announcement scrapping the special status of the state of J&K.
