How a Doctor, Devender Sharma, Went from Being a ‘Life Saver’ to ‘Trading Lives’

Amit who was involved in Gurugram Kidney Scandal. He has facilitated more than 100 illegal transplants in his career between 1994 to 2004.

Devender Sharma turned from being a lifesaver to a serial killer by owing to his educational qualification as the recipient of a- BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) degree.

With the illegal transplants, he got 5 lacs to 7 lacs per case.

He later confessed of dumping bodies of victims in crocodile-infested Hazara Canal in UP’s – Kashganj. But he first was suspected by authorities around 20 years ago for his involvement in a kidney transplant racket.

He was arrested by Delhi Police on the 29th of July.

Devender Sharma changed career tracks after his business investments failed and he decided to trade lives instead of saving lives.

His crime careers include – running a fake gas agency, the heinous kidney transplant racket for which he killed more than 100 patients, and sales of stolen vehicles.

Dr. Amit and his associates used to lure poor people from Uttar Pradesh on the pretext of a job. Then, they used to offer them about Rs 30,000 for kidney removal.

The ones who resisted were forcibly drugged and operated upon. The kidneys were then sold to clients in the United Kingdom, US, Canada, Greece, and Saudi Arabia.

Dr. Amit is believed to have conducted around 600 illegal kidney transplants.

Devender Sharma’s wife and children publicly disowned him after his Kidney transplant racket surfaced in 2004.

Upon investigation, Devender Sharma confessed that he has killed more than 100 patients in his career and that he does not remember the exact number. Whereas, Delhi Police feared that the number is 125 and the exact number can not be confirmed.

Devender Sharma was released on the probe after 16 years of jail in Jaipur until the 28th of January, 2020. He was released on a 20 – day parole for ‘good behavior’

His parole ended on the 20th of February, 2020. But he went underground to avoid jail. Devender Sharma had recently married a widow and was living under secret identity in Gali number 10 in Delhi’s- Baprola area from where he was arrested. Delhi Police after searching for the convict found out about his hideout on the 28th of July and arrested him on the 29th.

The custody of the 62- year old will be handed over to Rajasthan Police through the courts.
