Turkey, Iran Slam UAE over Israel Agreement

United Arab Emirates ‘s (UAE) accord to normalize ties with Israel has led to a backlash from Turkey and Iran.

After Friday prayers, Turkey’s President Tayyip Erdogan addressed reporters and spoke about suspending diplomatic ties and withdrawing its ambassador from UAE.

“The move against Palestine is not a step that can be stomached. Now, Palestine is either closing or withdrawing its embassy. The same thing is valid for us now,” Erdogan said during the address.

Adding that he gave orders to his foreign minister, Erdogan said, “I told him we may also take a step in the direction of suspending diplomatic ties with the Abu Dhabi leadership or pulling back our ambassador.”

Turkey’s foreign ministry stated that history would never forgive the UAE’s “hypocritical behavior” by agreeing to such a deal with Isreal.

On Friday, Iran’s Foreign Ministry statement called the agreement between the UAE and Israel “dangerous and illegitimate”, the state news agency IRNA quoted.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry statement stated, “The shameful measure of Abu Dhabi to reach an agreement with the fake Zionist regime (Israel) is a dangerous move and the UAE and other states that backed it will be responsible for its consequences.”

“This is stabbing the Palestinians in the back and will strengthen the regional unity against the Zionist regime,” the statement added.

Denouncing the UAE-Israel accord, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammed, Javad Zarif called the agreement a “theatre” concocted by the United States.

“They (US) think that by fabricating the theatre like the one that happened yesterday, unfortunately, that they can determine the fate of Palestine,” Javad Zarif said during a visit to Lebanon.

“The current U.S. administration has proven that it is not capable of understanding the political realities in our region,” Javad Zarif added.

Palestinian leaders denounced the UAE-Israel agreement by calling it a “stab in the back” to their struggle.
