Protest and Shutdown in Jammu Kashmir against Derogatory Video

Amid strict shutdown, massive protests are taking place in Chenab valley against blasphemous remarks of a self – proclaimed ‘Sadhu’.

People in large numbers staged a protest, early Monday morning on the highway town of Banihal, Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir to demand action against a self-styled guru and others responsible for posting a derogatory video.

Some civilians who took the road to protest were not practicing social distancing and the guidelines given to avoid the out break of the virus in the pandemic.

At around 8:30 am hundreds of shopkeepers and people from adjoining villages gathered to carry out a protest march in response of the blasphemous video.

Almost all business establishments and shops were closed down in Banihal and adjoining markets.

 

Movement of the traffic remained stagnant on the highway for a while due to the protest.

Curfew was also imposed in Kishtwar district and the security was put on high alert after a bandh call was given by Marakazi Majlis -E- Shura Kishtwar/ Sout -Ul- Awaliya/ Anjuman -E- Islamia Kishtwar and other Muslim Organizations over disrespect of Prophet Mohammed by a leader of different belief called Satpal in Jammu.

On Sunday, police in Jammu said that two people have been arrested after a communally sensitive video that has hurt the sentiments of a community went viral with hate – speech followed by blasphemous remarks.

IGP Jammu, Mukesh Singh said that the two men who have been arrested, their names being – Satpal Sharma and Deepak. And a third person who can be seen in the video is absconding but he has been identified as Rohit.

IGP Jammu also appealed to the people and asked them not to share the video as it may cause communal disrupt and may shake the brotherhood.
