Srinagar-Jammu Highway Restored For Traffic Movement After Heavy Rains

After continuous heavy rains in Jammu Kashmir division from last four days, the national highway connecting Kashmir with Jammu remained closed for four consecutive days as there were landslides and falling of stones in Ramban and Poonch districts.

Almost 2000 vehicles were stranded at various places. Now, after four days when the weather is better and the landslides have been cleared where a large portion of the land was washed away due to heavy rainfall, traffic on Jammu-Srinagar highway has been restored partially on Saturday morning where stranded vehicles from Srinagar were allowed to head for their destinations first.

One way traffic has been allowed by the authorities so far. Srinagar Jammu highway often gets blocked in winters with heavy snowfall or rainfall, this highway is prone to landslides and accidents, which largely disrupts the smooth functioning of both the divisions.

Often vehicles loaded with vegetables and fruits strand for long weeks on these roads which altogether adds to the loss of their businesses. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is continuously working for the restoration of the highway with modern equipment and machinery.
