Ambassador Mustapha Adib on Monday was designated to form a new government after he secured the support of majority of MPs.
The previous government had quit after the Beirut Port Blast earlier this month.
Mustapha Adib met the President Michael Aoun and Parliament speaker Nabih Berri at the palace of Baabda near Beirut.
Mr. Adib, Lebanon’s ambassador to Germany, secured at least 66 votes, more than half of the 120 MPs currently serving in the Lebanese parliament.
The Christian Free Patriotic Movement had nominated him for this position.
