“I am sorry. I am tired”-Jyothi Sri Durga, NEET Aspirant Commits Suicide

Jyothi Sri Durga, a 19 year old NEET student died by suicide. And left a note to her parents which said ”I am sorry, I am tired”.

Jyothisri took her life just one day before the exam, this is the third suicide case in the last one month.

The NEET aspirant belonged to Madurai and lived with her family in the armed forces reserve quarters.

Her father named Murugasundaram is in the fifth battalion of the armed forces. Jyothi had given NEET last year as well but secured fewer marks and was preparing to give the exam again.

While interacting with the media her father said, “She studied well. She would have got over 550. But she has been depressed. She spoke to us well in the night. In the morning, we realised this has happened.”

According to her family, she had seemed fine while talking to them during dinner and had gone to sleep in the room she used to study in, for the exam.

On Saturday morning, when they knocked on her door, however, she reportedly didn’t emerge.

They then called her on her cellphone and when she didn’t pick, they broke the door open, and they found Jyothi dead with a letter and a video.

In the letter, the girl expressed her fears and said she was not able to live up to her father’s expectations.She repeatedly tells them to not blame themselves for her decision.

She was also concerned about disappointing her parents. In the video too, she apologises profusely for her decision to her mother and father. Jyothi’s parents were shocked after the incident.

As per reports, Jyoti’s father said she was good in studies and could easily score 550 in NEET.

The first case was in August where a young woman took her own life in Coimbatore district, afraid to write the upcoming entrance exam. Her death had come a day after the Supreme Court dismissed pleas seeking postponement of the examination.

This was followed by another death, last week of a young man from Ariyalur district. Vignesh had already attempted the test twice, but had performed well enough to get a seat.
