54 Prisoners Test Covid Positive in Amphalla Jail

54 prisoners and two jail personnel lodged in Jammu district jail Amphalla have been found corona positive.

650 more local and foreign prisoners are lodged in Amphalla Jail, Sources told The Kashmiriyat. However, the prison administration says that since the Corona period began, neither inmates have been sent out of prison for trial nor has anyone been invited to meet in prison.

A total of 115 staff are deployed in the jail, out of which only two have been found infected.

The two personnel found to be infected are stationed at the outer gate of the jail, Their movement inside his prison is not allowed.

“A prisoner in Amphalla jail was being taken to GMC Hospital in Jammu for investigation for the past few days after suffering problems in Kidney. He was found infected by doctors at GMC Hospital when he tested rapid antigen before treatment,” Sources told The Kashmiriyat.

After the prisoner was found infected, the prison administration asked the Health Department to conduct a corona check of the prisoners and staff personnel.

Last Tuesday, the process of conducting rapid antigen test of inmates and staff personnel in jail started.

Within two days, 55 prisoners and two staff personnel were found infected.

Although the jail staff has been tested, Tests of prisoners are now being done.

According to the jail administration, the barracks are being cleaned regularly to prevent the virus from entering the barracks.

Prisoners are being given daily bites in the morning so that their patient immunity can increase.

DG Jail VK Singh told the media that not all the prisoners found infected have symptoms of corona, adding, ” The Jail administration is taking full precaution in the matter.”

Earlier, corona cases were reported from the District Jail of Mattan in Anantnag and the Central Jail of Srinagar where dozens of people were tested covid positive.
