Fact Check- Lazy Journalism by ANI Takes Credit from One Kashmiri Football Trick-shot Artist, Attributes it to Another

A football trickster from Kashmir’s Srinagar district, Huzaif Shah has claimed that his achievements have been falsely attributed to another football trickster from Budgam district.

The Asian News International (ANI) had recently published a story titled “Kashmiri football trick-shot artist does India proud” in which they featured a young football trickster, Shah Huzaib, who is a class XI student.

The ANI also reported that Huzaib became the first participant from Jammu Kashmir to participate in an international football trick-shot competition organised by Cristiano Ronaldo.

However, The Kashmiriyat fact checked the report and found that Huzaib started leaning football skills in 2018, while, the CR7 challenge took place in 2017.

The Kashmiriyat also spoke to Shah Huzaib who said that he did not participate in the competition. The false report attributed the achievements of Huzaif Shah to Huzaib.

The ANI in its report, which was later carried by some major media outlets including The Tribune, The Businessworld, Punjab Kesari, falsely reported that Huzaib started nurturing his skills in 2016.

However, speaking to The Kashmiriyat, Huzaib said, “I started practising football with my cousins in 2018 not 2016.”

The Kashmiriyat also spoke to Huzaif Shah over phone, who said that the ANI report has attributed all his achievements to Huzaib.

Huzaif further said that he was featured on the History TV’s OMG show. “I emerged as the fourth runner up in the global CR7 trick-shot online challenge in 2017.

Accusing the ANI of lazy journalism, he said that the journalists did not cross check the facts and falsely plagiarised my details and attributed them falsely to Huzaib.

Interestingly in 2017, Ani had done a similar story titled ‘Kashmir’s first football freestyle shot artist performs tricks.’
