The vehicular traffic on the 270 Km long NH44 between Jammu and Srinagar has been suspended since wee hours today due to the overnight snowfall around Jawahar Tunnel.
A Traffic Police official told The Kashmiriyat that about 4 inches of snow had accumulated on the highway near Jawahar Tunnel making the road slippery due to which the authorities had to suspend the movement of vehicles as a precautionary measure.
No vehicle will be allowed for Srinagar or Jammu beyond Udhampur and Qazigund till further orders, the official said.
Meanwhile the plains of Kashmir valley witnessed rainfall and the hilly areas including Gulmarg, Tangmarg, areas of North Kashmir witnessed snowfall.
Earlier an advisory issued by the Traffic department had said that subject to fair weather and better road conditions, Light Motor Vehicles shall be allowed from Jammu towards Srinagar.
