Stone Throwing Clashes Erupt Near Encounter Site in Shopian

Stone throwing clashes have erupted near the encounter site in Kanigam area of Shopian in South Kashmir on Saturday morning.

Locals from kanigam told The Kashmiriyat that youth in large numbers hit the streets early on Friday morning amid the gunshots and threw stones at the Government Force personnel deployed in the area.

They said that youth from nearby areas including Nulay, Nagbal, Badigam, Dehpora reached the area and gathered here shouting slogans, throwing stones on Forces deployed in the area.

The paramilitary troopers in the area fired tear smoke shells at them in order to disperse them, however the youth regrouped in larger number and the clashes were going on till this report was filed.

An official said that the encounter in Kanigam area of Shopian started on Friday evening when Militants fired upon forces during a cordon and search operation launched jointly by 44 RR, CRPF and Jammu Kashmir Police.

The Encounter is still on, two soldiers were injured in the initial exchange of gunfire between the Militants and the Forces.

As per the latest reports, there is a complete lull, one has been damaged during the exchange of gunfire.

“The Search operations are still on, as of now, we have been unable to find any dead body,” an official told The Kashmiriyat
