An encounter has started between militants and Government forces in the Omaraad area of Srinagar in Central Kashmir on Tuesday.
An official confirming the exchange of gunfire to The Kashmiriyat said that 2 Rashtriya Rifles, Jammu Kashmir Police and CRPF jointly laid a siege in Omarabad area of Srinagar.

He said that the cordon was laid after the forces had received a tip-off about Militant movements in the area.
As soon as the forces launched the searches, the Militants opened fire on them to which the forces responded.
All the entry and exit points to the area have been sealed, sources said, adding “two to three militants are believed to be holed up at the site of the encounter.”
Meanwhile, the Jammu Kashmir Police has said that they are trying their best to persuade the hiding militants to surrender.
The locals meanwhile said that an intermittent exchange of gunfire is going on.
