With no proper dumping site available in Ganderbal, the garbage in the district is being dumped in the main town along the Srinagar-Kargil highway.

The locals accused the district administration, particularly the municipal committee Ganderbal of failing to identify any suitable land for the proper dumping of the garbage in the district.

The locals alleged that the garbage collected by the Municipal committee Ganderbal is dumped near Beehama and power house Ganderbal along the Srinagar-Kargil highway.

Locals alleged that waste collected by the Municipal committee Ganderbal is dumped in the open space along the highway near Beehama, which has become a nuisance.

“The dogs prowl around the area in search of food, which poses a threat to the locals particularly the students. The authorities have turned a blind eye toward this issue,” he said, adding that the piled up garbage emanates foul smell and has become a health hazard for the people. “It also attracts dogs, cattle, and insects,” a commuter said.

“Due to heavy snow, we could not get the garbage removed, we also have a shortage of sweepers in the Municipal council of Ganderbal, but the garbage shall be removed soon,” Chairman Municipal Committee Ganderbal, Advocate Altaf told The Kashmiriyat
