Electricity Crisis Continue in Shopian Areas Amid Harsh Winters

Aftermath of snowfall is that the valley plunges into the darkness with the tripping of power lines leaving the residents vulnerable to tackle freezing weather. This winter- after season’s first snowfall, many far-flung areas in the valley were reeling under darkness for days together.

Locals irked by the power outage, often complain of hardships in absence of electricity in cold weather.

Power supply in the areas of Aglar Chirat, Nikloora, Shirmal and Heff from Chitragam receiving station in Shopian receive electricity two hours a day, followed by 4 hours off. Rural areas face a worst power reliability situation after every snowfall.

The locals in the area have been suffering from difficulties, as electronic heaters and other chargeable devices are difficult to hold on generators and motors.

A local of Shopian spoke to The Kashmiriyat and said that every year PDD comes up with an excuse and this year was no different. They are destined to spent winter nights in harsh weathers. The locals alleged that the authorities do not take advance steps to avoid power crises.

According to the government, of 951 feeder in Kashmir 471 were damaged, while 150 transformers got damaged in the valley in the recent snowfall.
