“Their Visit is a Futile Move to Display the New ‘Normal’ in Kashmir” – JKIM President on BJP Government’s Invitation to EU Delegates

Jammu Kashmir Ittihadul Muslimeen (JKIM) has castigated the government for organizing the trip of European delegation asserting that Modi government and ruling BJP wanted to falsely misinform them of the new ‘normal’ in Kashmir and they hope these kind of delegations will send that message.

In press release issued to The Kashmiriyat, JKIM President, Maulana Masroor Ansari termed the delegation’s visit to Kashmir as a futile move and said that a visit to Kashmir by certain people would never solve the long standing Kashmir problem and the world could not be misled by these tactical steps.

JKIM reiterated its stand regarding the peaceful and just political resolution of the Kashmir dispute through dialogue as per the aspirations of its people and said it stands firm on its stand.

It further said that almost whole Kashmiri leadership continues to be illegally arrested or arbitrarily detained at home for the past one and a half years by authorities and their basic human rights stand suspended all for advocating people’s aspirations.

“We don’t have an objection to the European Union Parliament delegation visiting Jammu and Kashmir. What we demand is that New Delhi should give free access to all other human rights organizations including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch to visit Kashmir and freely access the situation here. These human rights organizations are not being allowed to go to Jammu and Kashmir which proves that the visit of European parliamentarians is a conducted tour”, the statement said.

The statement further said that United Nations, the European Union and other world powers should remember their responsibilities to resolve the long-standing Kashmir dispute in accordance with the wishes of the Kashmiri people. By inviting selected parliamentarians New Delhi will not succeed in misleading the international community.

Questioning the delegation’s visit, the JKIM President said that while New Delhi had refused to give free access to Kashmir to other human rights organizations including Amnesty and Human Rights Watch, these selected parliamentarians will be taken on a boat ride on Dal Lake and will be briefed by the Army to paint a picture to the world that everything is normal in Kashmir while the fact is that there is nothing normal about Kashmir.
