Police Seize 12 Bore Shotguns in Multiple Raids in Ganderbal

Poaching and hunting pose the biggest threat to the migratory birds visiting the valley in winter season. Ganderbal Police initiated a special drive against poachers and early apprehended two poachers who were misusing their licensed weapons caused a huge loss by killing a considerable number of aquatic migratory birds.

While continuing drive against poachers, Police Station Kheerbhawani and Police Post Shadipora headed by respective SHO/ DO conducted raids at different locations in Shalbugh and Paribal villages  and recovered five no. of 12 bore guns

Accordingly, Case FIR No.11/21 U/S 3/25 IA Act and FIR No. 25/2021 U/S 3/25 IA Act has been registered in Police Station Kheerbhawani and Police Station Ganderbal respectively and five persons booked.

SSP Ganderbal Khalil Ahmed Poswal-JKPS, warned those poachers who are killing migratory birds whether with licensed or unlicensed weapons, adding that killing of migratory birds, not only threatens certain species but also leads to degradation of ecosystem and livelihood of locals as well.
