Ration Distributor in Sopore Accused of ‘Misappropriation’ in Ration Card Issuance- Locals Demand Cancellation of License

There are some elements in the Department of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs FCS&CA department who have made misappropriation in the issuance of ration cards, and the government has failed to take any action against him in this north Kashmir district.

Locals told The Kahsmiriyat that there is one fair price shop owner in the Pethbugh area of Waripora in Sopre who has made misappropriation in the issuance of ration cards.

” From the last 10 years, I have not been given any benefit from this fair shop owner as I was told that they belonged to the Above Poverty Line (APL) category whereas I have no resources to meet the needs of my family, my name was enlisted in the BPL category some ten years ago,” a resident Pethbugh village said.

He said that this fair shop owner Fayaz Ahmad Wagay always supplies the ration to the consumers at the market rates, which is a complete injustice to the poor consumers.

The Locals said that they approached the concerned department and made a complaint before the Divisional Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, SSP office, ACB for redressal of their problems, but nothing has been done so far.

They alleged that there was a huge misappropriation issuance of cards, be it an APL or BPL. ” This completely shows that how the department concerned has failed to take any appropriate action against the fair price shop owner,” a Local told The Kashmiriyat.

A local inhabitant of Pethbugh Waripora who sold 6 Kannals of land for the treatment of his children was enlisted in the BPL category, but despite that she did not get her due rights and was buying ration at market price, locals informed.

The residents said that they complained to the Food Civil Supplies and Consumer AffairsDepartment(FCS&CA) Baramulla after which the concerned department took cognizance of the issue and constituted a committee vide order no: ADFCS&CA/Bla/2021/5183-85 dated 16/02/2021.

The order reads that “ in view of complaint received from the inhabitants of village Pethbugh regarding misappropriation in issuing ration cards sanction is hereby accorded to the constitution of following enquiry committee.”

The enquiry committee shall conduct an in-depth inquiry into the matter and and for the responsibility at all the levels, reads an order copy.

The order copy further said that the inquiry committee is directed to submit its report along with concrete recommendations to the office of AD food by or before 17/02/2021.

Shabir Ahmad Khan and Abdul Majeed Lone, both TSOs were designated as members of the committee.

Meanwhile, the inhabitants demanded diversion of ration to the other nearest food store and cancelation of a license to this particular fair price shop owner and thoroughly investigate the matter.
