Amid Clashes, Four Residential Houses Damaged in Ongoing Shopian Encounter- Search Operations Continue

Four residential houses have been damaged in the overnight gunfight at Rawalpora area of Shopian district in South Kashmir.

Officials earlier said that a local militant was killed in an overnight gunfight while a US-made M-4 carbine and 36 Armor piercing rounds were recovered from the slain militant, according to the army.

Clashes erupted in the area and government forces fired to disperse protesters in which a 22-year-old youth has been injured in his left eye after being hit with pellets.

The injured youth has been identified as Arif Ahmed Wagay son of Nazir Ahmed Wagay of Rakhnara Shopain.

The 22-year-old has suffered an injury in his left eye, Dr. Nazir Choudhary, Medical Superintendent SMHS hospital where the youth has been admitted said.

A police official speaking to The Kashmiriyat said that the Search operation is still on.
