Fishermen community are up in arms against the Fisheries Department as it has failed to monitor Wular lake and taking action against the fishermen who are using fishing nets.
The protesting fishermen alleged that the department has done nothing so far, and their livelihood is at stake.
Chanting slogans against the department, they alleged that the due to the corruption, some officers are hand in glove with poachers who are using fishing nets during nights.
“Using fishing nets, in the Wular lake is declining the number of fish, through which our livelihood is going from bad to worse,” said the protesting fisherman.
Meanwhile, ADM Fisheries said that their employees are working tirelessly to keep vigil to the lake.
“In this regard, we have set up a committee that can take strong notice to the poacher, who are found illegally involved in such crimes,” he said.
