Satya Pal Malik, Governor of Meghalya Stands With Farmers Amid Strife with BJP

On Wednesday, Meghalaya Governor, Satya Pal Malik backed the farmer’s protests against three agricultural laws and criticized the BJP government in a series of provocative comments.

He also predicted loss of support for BJP in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana because of the four month long agitation of farmers on the Delhi’s borders.

In an interview with NDTV he said, If a dog dies, it is condoled, but when 250 farmers died, no one expressed condolences”.

He claimed that he has spoken to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah on the ongoing farmer’s protest.

He remarked that the farmers should not be sent back empty-handed, the government should response to their demands and open talks with them.

He said that he will speak for the farmers even if he will be removed from his post. He added that he was worried about his controversial statements as a government.

He was the Governor of Jammu Kashmir when article 370 and 35-A were scrapped in August 2019, that time he was transferred to Goa. After August of 2020, he was transferred once again from Goa to Meghalaya amid differences with the BJP government in Goa.
