Police Recovers 1790 Bottles of Codeine in Anantnag

The Jammu Kashmir Police on Wednesday morning claimed to have arrested two drug peddlers and recovered more than 1790 bottles of codeine in the Anantnag district of South Kashmir.

In a press release issued to The Kashmiriyat, the Police said that a Police party from Police Station Bijbehara established Naka at Tulkhan crossing and apprehended two persons namely Lateef Ahmad Shah and Azad Ahmad Shah both residents of Nambal Mattan with 15 Codeine bottles. In this regard case FIR no 64/2021 under relevant sections of law registered in P/S Bijbehara.

Upon questioning they revealed that they have bought this from the house of one namely Gh Hassan Dar, a  resident of Tulkhan Bijbehara.

In this connection, a team of Subdivision level headed by SDPO Bijbehara under the close supervision of SSP Anantnag Shri Imtiyaz Hussain rushed to the location and started searching the house, and during search 1715 bottles of Codeine were recovered from a dumped pit around 7 feet deep near the kitchen garden.

SSP Anantnag Imtiyaz Hussain has expressed gratitude to the people of Anantnag for being forthcoming in supporting the endeavour of police to eradicate the menace of drugs in the District. He reiterated the firm resolve of Anantnag police to go to the last criminal to ensure that everyone involved in the illicit trade is brought to justice and rule of law is enforced.
