On Saturday night, the Punjab Police arrested a groom in Jalandhar on his wedding reception party for violating the Covid protocol.
The Deputy Commissioner of Jalandhar stated that they had to arrest the groom and his father because the reception party, which was happening without any prior permission, was violating the rules of the curfew that was imposed in the state on the weekend due to the rapid rise in the Covid-19 cases.
There were more than a hundred people present at the venue when according to the protocol, not more than 20 people can gather. It has emerged that the guests fled the party once the groom and his father were taken into custody by the police.
The Punjab government has imposed a strict night curfew from 8 pm- 5 am. The gyms, cinema halls, coaching centers and sports complexes have been closed in the state until April 30. And the gathering of more than 20 people has been banned all across the state, this ban also includes weddings and cremations. And, except for cremations, prior permission is needed for a gathering of more than 10 people.
The two have been booked under section 188 of the IPC. Although, the groom told the police that he wasn’t aware of how so many people turned up for his reception.
