A 36 year old Sikh man, Taptejdeep Singh, was identified among the nine people murdered in yet another act of mass shooting in the US. The incident occurred in the city of San Jose.
On Thursday, an employee of the rail yard in the heart of the Silicon Valley shot down 9 people and then killed himself.
The news agency AP has stated that the shooter has been identified as Samuel Cassidy (57 years old).
Taptejdeep Singh was a light rail operator at the Valley Transportation Authority for the past 9 years. He was one of the first victims to be publicly identified by his family, who said that it was his second day of work after a vacation.
Singh belonged to the Gagrewal village of Punjab’s Tarn Taran district. He had moved to the US in 2005 along with his family, he has left behind a wife, two children (aged 8 and 2) and his parents.
His uncle, Sukhwant Dhillon, told media that” Singh always thought of others and always wanted to help others, everyone is in shock, we cannot believe he’s gone.”
The co-workers told the family that Singh had left the safety of his office to warn others about the shooter. Unfortunately, he met the gunman in the stairwell and was murdered.
This is the latest among the series of mass shooting incidents that have taken place in the US. This happened to be the 232nd mass shooting of the year 2021, as per the Gun Violence Archive.
President Joe Biden has reacted to the San Jose shooting by urging Congress to “take immediate action” on gun legislation.
“Enough,” Biden said. “Once again, I urge Congress to take immediate action and heed the call of the American people, including the vast majority of gun owners, to help end this epidemic of gun violence in America.”
