The residents of Kawoosa of Tehsil Narbal of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district, on Tuesday, staged a protest against acute water shortage in the village.

The protestors staged a sit-in protest on the vital Srinagar-Gulmarg road and blocked the vehicular movement due to the water shortage they have been facing for a number of days now.

Scores of vehicles were stranded on the road connecting hundreds of villages with District Headquarters, Budgam.

“We have to travel up to one kilometre to fetch drinking water. The department is not taking any cognizance of our repeated pleas,” the protestors said.

The protestors appealed to Divisional Commissioner Kashmir and the Chief Engineer PHE to look into the matter and direct the concerned officials to ensure a smooth water supply.
