She received the gold medal from the President of India Ram Nath Kovind in presence of the Lieutenant Governor of Union Territory of Jammu Kashmir and the Chancellor of Kashmir University, Manoj Sinha and other dignitaries.

Mehras, in an exclusive conversation with The Kashmiriyat, talked about her journey and future plans.

“Alhamdullilah, I am very happy and proud that I received this award from the president. I want to give its credit to my parents, who are very supportive and my teachers who guided me in each and every step,” she said to The Kashmiriyat.

“I always wanted to be a journalist but my parents suggested that I pursue Law. I pursued law on my parents’ advice, which later, I understood was a wise decision and it completely changed my life,” she said.

Hailing from the Nageen area of Srinagar, Mehras wasn’t aware of the CLAT exam which is conducted every year for students to get enrolled in various law schools of India. Describing it as unfortunate, Mehras said that the students of Kashmir often lack basic guidance about their career choices after 12.

Mehras told The Kashmiriyat about her future goals and said, “I have a keen interest in Human rights and I want to work in the field of human rights, and alongside I will continue to work as a practitioner and will join academia as well.”
