Muslim Man Beaten to Death in Gujarat Police’s Custody

Earlier this week on Wednesday, Irshad Sheikh, resident of Surat, Gajarat was allegedly beaten to death by cops while in custody at Chowk Bazar Police Station in Surat, Maktoob Media reported.

The deceased’s wife, Saba Khatoon, said that the officers from Chowk Bazar Police Station had called Irshad on Tuesday morning and asked him to report at the police station in regard to a case.

She said that she kept on waiting until Wednesday morning. Later, they received his dead body, Saba Khatoon said.

She alleges that the police subjected her husband, Irshad, to third-degree torture in custody, resulting in his death.

Irshad’s mother-in-law said that Sheikh’s dead body returned in the same rickshaw in which he had travelled to the police station alive on his own.

ABP News had reported that the police brutality took place after Irshad was produced in court and released on bail.

“He was admitted to the hospital in a critical condition. The accused died after being released on bail,” as per ABP News.

Reports also say that a policeman, in charge of the Chowk Bazar Police Station, was charged in the custodial death case of Irshad.
