Kulgam Encounter- One Militant Killed, “Major Tragedy Averted Ahead of 15 August,” Says IGP Kashmir

A major tragedy has been averted before Independence Day, said Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said on Friday after one Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) Militant was killed during an encounter in Kulgam district of Kashmir.

On Thursday, two security personnel and two civilians were injured in firing byLeT Militants during an encounter in Suth Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

According to Police, Militants opened fire upon a BSF convoy in Kulgam on Thursday afternoon in the Mirbazar area of Kulgam district.

“Senior officers of police, CRPF and Army are present at the spot when the Militants opened fire,” the IGP had said.

The hiding Militants were chased to a building where an encounter raged. During the exchange of gunfire one Militant was killed. “The operation has been called off,” Jammu Kashmir Police said.

He also said that the traffic plying on the Highway from Srinagar to Jammu will be shortly restored.
