123 Militants Killed So far in 2018

As of 24 August in the current year, a total of 123 Militants have been killed in Kashmir this year, as per figures available to The Kashmiriyat.

A unilateral ceasefire was declared by the Indian Government on 14 May when the Government forces were asked not to launch operations during Ramadan, during that month 24 Militants were killed.

The Centre soon announced the resumption of intelligence-based cordon-and-search-operations in the state on June 17, 2018.

The Indian home minister Rajnath Singh took to Twitter to announce that the government of India had decided not to extend the suspension of operations in Jammu Kashmir.

The bloodiest day this year was 01 April when Encounters raged at three different places in South Kashmir, a total of 13 Militants were killed in the encounters, three troopers were also killed.

On 11 March, three Militants affiliated with Tehreek ul Mujahideen including Eisa Fazili were killed in a shootout at Hakura area of South Kashmir’s Islamabad (Anantnag) District.

On 22 March, 5 Lashkar e Taiba men were killed in a Gunfight in Halmatpora area of North Kashmir’s Kupwara District, 5 troopers were also shot dead.

On 06th Day of May, An encounter ragged in Badigam area of Shopian in South Kashmir in which Saddam Padder, the Hizb commander was killed along with four of his associates.

On 20 June, three Jaish e Muhammad Militants were killed in a Gunfight at Tral while on 22 June four Militants including Dawood Salafi were killed in a separate encounter in Sirigufwara area of Islamabad (Anantnag) District.

On 2 August, Two Hizbul Mujahideen Militants were killed in a gunfight in Kupwara district.

Two Militants were killed in another gunfight that raged on 3 August at Sopore in Baramulla district.

Again on 3 and 4 August, 5 Militants were killed in Kiloora area of Shopian district.

On 7 August 2 Militants were killed by Indian Army at the Gurez sector of Bandipora district.

Again on 8 August, 5 Militants were killed on LOC at Rafiabad, Baramulla district.

On 19 August again, the Indian Army claimed to have killed three Militants at the Tandghdar sector along the Line of control.

One Militant was killed in a gunfight at Kokernag area in South Kashmir’s Islamabad (Anantnag) district.

Jammu Kashmir has been seeing a rise in Militant killings as well as recruitments, while official figures reveal that more than 50,000 people have been killed since the rise of an armed insurgency against Indian rule in 1988.

The Himalayan region is claimed by both India and Pakistan in entirety and have fought three wars over the Region.
