Residents living near and around the largest garbage dumping ground of Achan in Srinagar are in distress due to stench coming from the site.
According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) stench coming from Srinagar’s largest garbage dumping ground in Achan spreads all around the adjoining areas making it intolerable for residents to live in the vicinity.
Around 500 tons of solid waste is produced in Srinagar everyday and is dumped in the only dumping site at Achan located at the outskirts of the city.
“We have been asking the authorities to take necessary measures but nobody is responding,” said a local resident.
Residents had appealed to the government to address the concern at an earliest as many people living in the area have shifted from the place while many are selling their homes due to unbearable smell—(KNO)
