People at Haider Maidan, Ganderbal are facing severe difficulties due to non-availability of clean drinking water as the water filtration plant remains nonfunctional.
The Rresidents of Gutlibagh, Wayil Wooder, Sehipora and Haider Maidan Chappergund areas of Ganderbal district of central Kashmir have expressed their displeasure with the district administration and Jal Shakti department, saying that a water filtration plant was built in the area many years ago, which was not fully operational.
Due to the nonfunctionality of the plant, people are facing severe problems with regard to drinking water.
Locals told The Kashmiriyat that the Jal Shakti department had spent millions of rupees to build a filtration plant and installed modern machinery in it. However, according to them, modern pumps are still inoperable due to non-installation of some pipes.
He further said that despite spending lakhs of rupees on filtration plant, people are deprived of clean drinking water.
Talking to The Kashmiriyat, locals said that people were facing difficulties due to untimely and inadequate water supply in the area by the Jal Shakti department.
“People have to travel miles to get clean drinking water, which is causing them problems,” he said. And even in modern times, people in the area are being forced to unclean water from streams.
Criticizing the Jal Shakti Department, he said, “The majority of the population has been deprived of basic necessities like water.”
He appealed to the administration to activate the water filtration plant constructed in the area and provide clean drinking water to the majority of the population.
