“Will further cause anger among the masses against government”: Gulam Nabi Azad on massive crackdown on bikers

Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad while expressing his concern over the spate of selected killings Wednesday stated that those involved in the act should be arrested to expose the real plans.

He, however, said that the intense frisking and massive crackdown on the bikers was causing huge inconveniences to the general public.

“I met people of almost 11 districts and all have condemned the killing of non-locals and selected killings,” he told reporters as per news agency-Kashmir News Observer (KNO) at his Hyderpora residence in Srinagar.

He said that there is no development taking place in J&K as construction material has become very costly and poverty is at its peak across in Kashmir as well as Jammu region.

“Unemployment is touching new heights and people are becoming poorer day by day,’ he said, adding that the only solution to the problem was restoration of statehood and to ensure elected government.

“The job of bureaucrats is to check and clear files and projects etc. Politician has a separate responsibility that of serving people on ground,” he said. “Hoping that J&K would prosper without elected government is the big mistake. We can’t even wait till militancy ends and development would take place. The solution is that while curbing militancy, development must go on as well.”

He said due to steep rise in petrol, majority of people prefer two-wheelers like scooters and bikes but unfortunately, massive crackdown on bikers is highly condemnable. “This will further cause anger among the masses against government. Instead of taking pro-people steps, government is causing huge inconvenience for the general public,” Azad said. “We need to create a peaceful environment so that tourists arrive and people live in peace. Government must take positive steps in that direction.”—  (KNO)
