The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti was put under house yet again when she was planning to visit the residence of slain youth Shahid Ahmed Rather who was shot dead under suspicious circumstances by CRPF at Shopian.
Shahid Ahmad Rather, a resident of the Arwani area in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district. A daily-wage labourer, Shahid was reportedly hired by a farmer in Shopian to help with harvesting the apple crop.
Speaking to this reporter a source within PDP termed these frequents house arrests as a sign of nervousness on the part of administration.
“Is consoling the family who have lost their breadwinner to security forces bullet under suspicious circumstances a crime now,” he said.
Terming silence of the government as unfortunate the source said taking no action denigrates institutions and emboldens deviant elements.
“Has anyone from government visited Shahid’s home to console with the family. Has administration initiated any enquiry into the incident or announced compensation for the victims family, ” he added.
Pertinent to mention PDP President was earlier also not allowed to meet Parvez Ahmed Khan’s family, who was also killed by CRPF. Parvez belonged to a poor nomadic community. (KF)
