A spontaneous shutdown is being observed in Kangan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district against the killing of a local youth in police action.
All shops, business establishments, and educational institutions are closed while public transport is off the roads.
Reports said that the police and paramilitary forces have been deployed in strength in the area to thwart any protests.
A local youth, Gowhar Ahmad Rather (22), succumbed at SKIMS Soura on Tuesday.
He was admitted to the hospital after being seriously injured in police action on Monday.
Jammu and Kashmir Police has suspended constable Gulzar Ahmad who allegedly shot Rather.
The locals and family members of Rather are, however, demanding that the accused be dismissed from the service.
