Residents of Haritar Rakh-Hygam, Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district are facing hurdles as the bund at the canal was allegedly demolished few days ago.
The local residents said that it was the most used road and it connected village Haritar with Hygam.
While speaking to The Kashmiriyat, the locals said that approximately 20 days earlier, the wildlife department demolished a bund at the canal in the village and the water was diverted through the road.
As per locals, the bund was constructed by the government in the year 1970.
Locals said that after the demolition of the bund, they have been facing a lot of difficulties. The school children, especially, are suffering badly. Inhabitants said that road was used as shortcut by students to reach their schools.
“Wildlife department demolished the bund by saying that they were diverting water for migratory birds,” the locals alleged.
Meanwhile, when The Kashmiriyat contacted Divisional Forest Officer,(DFO) Baramulla, she said that “It was an illegal encroachment that’s why wildlife department demolished it.”
When this reporter asked her that the bund was built by the government in 1970, she responded by saying, “We don’t know anything about it.”
Locals of the area appealed to the Lt. Governor of Jammu Kashmir to redress their issue at the earliest, so they don’t suffer anymore.
