Deaf members of J&K sports council stage protest, demands elections

Members from various districts of All Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council of deaf held protest on Saturday in Srinagar demanding a proper election for sports council. The protesters alleges that previous election was held within the specific family and no one knows about that election

Talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Shahid Ahmed (translator for protesters) said that for the last 20 years the council has been run by two people Saleem Wani and Shanaz Gul who have created a monopoly over the council.

“We don’t want to change the body but we want there to be a member from every district in elections of council. A body should be formed by all members of different districts. An election was to be held a few days ago but the existing council didn’t let it happen,” Shahid said.

“We appeal government to take pains into this matter, so that a proper election will be held and members from different districts can participate and a new body for sports council of deaf will be formed,” he said—(KNO)
