Earlier, he used to sing at his school’s functions. In order to make singing his full-time profession, he started learning music professionally and graduated from the Institute of Fine Arts College, Srinagar.
After that, he obtained his Post-Graduation and M.Phil degrees in ‘Indian Classical Music.’ Apart from that, he’s pursuing research in “Philosophy Of Music And Religion” from Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak, Haryana.
While talking to The Kashmiriyat, Tariq said, “In the beginning, I worked with ‘Jankar’, which happens to be a musical group of the renowned Sufi singer Shafi Sopori, for almost four years. After that, I worked with various other musical groups. I have performed in singing events in almost 19 states across the country.”
“However,” Tariq added, “I have also worked with various educational institutions as a music teacher. Currently, I work as a Lecturer at Girls Higher Secondary School, Baramulla.”
He says that he has a music academy of his own, which is known as ‘Vibration314.’ “It is the first music academy in district Baramulla. And till date, I have trained near about 300 students,” Tariq told The Kashmiriyat.
Tariq said that he has also performed and won various competitions such as ‘Jankar Talent Show.’ He has also won the first prize as a solo singer, in the ‘Sonzal’ Competition, which was organised by Kashmir University. He, later, represented the state at Kanpur University. He has also performed in Australia.

Besides winning several singing competitions across the country, he has also received the ‘Rashid Farash Award’ from Rasheed Farash Foundation. He is the second person after Shafi Sopori to receive the award.
“Kashmiri artists have a lot of ability but there are fewer platforms in Kashmir,” Tariq said, adding, “The talent of the young ones goes wasted as there is no platform to showcase their talent. I urge the government to take steps to bring out the hidden talent in the children.”
He also said that some people sitting on the radio or television have occupied the space. He thinks that new talent should be given chance, too.
