1724 People, out of whom 89 are Kashmiri Pandits Killed by Militants Since 1990: RTI

A total of 1724 people have been killed by militant violence in Kashmir in the last 31 years, an RTI revealed, Of these, Kashmiri Pandits are 5 percent, while 95 percent of Muslims and people from other communities.

Of the total 154,161 people who migrated from Kashmir, 88 percent are Kashmiri Pandits and the remaining 12 percent are others.

PP Kapoor, A Panipat activist filed a Right to Information (RTI) which made a shocking disclosure on November 27 last year over militancy in Kashmir since 1990.

A total of 89 Kashmiri Pandits have been killed, while out of the total killings by militants 1635 people of other religions have been killed.

Kapoor said that out of the total 1,54,161 people who migrated from the state, the maximum number of 1,35,426 i.e. 88 percent of Kashmiri Pandits have migrated.

The number of others who migrated is only 12 percent, mainly Muslims. Kapoor said that the number of Kashmiri Pandits and others who returned home after the exodus was not informed by the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir.

Out of the total migration of 1,54,161 persons, 1,35,426 Hindus and 18735 Muslims migrated. Out of these, 53978 Hindus, 11212 Muslims, 5013 Sikhs and 15 others are getting government assistance while a total of 83,943 persons including 81448 Hindus, 949 Muslims, 1542 Sikhs and 4 others are deprived of government assistance.

Every registered Kashmiri migrant gets assistance of Rs 3250, 9 kg rice, 2 kg flour and one kg sugar every month from the government.
