Jammu Kashmir Police personnel to be equipped with ‘GPS-enabled Bodycams’

Days after Jammu Kashmir Police was sanctioned American Sig Sauer assault rifles and pistols to carry out anti-militancy operations, the Police personnel will now be seen equipped with bodycams.

The GPS-enabled 10-megapixel bodycams are going to be an integral part of their uniform, Dainik Jagran reported.

The bodycams will be fully capable of taking photos, video, and voice recording with the camera in all weather, day or night.

Apart from personnel posted in police stations, traffic policemen will also be equipped with them to maintain law and order.

A state police official was quoted by Dainik Jagran as saying that the process of modernization of Jammu Kashmir Police has been going on continuously for the last few years.

The challenges of Jammu Kashmir Police are completely different from the police of other states and union territories. “This is the first police in the country which is fighting the normal duty of the police to the proxy war run by the neighboring country of Pakistan,” he said.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police will be the first police personnel deployed for operational activities and maintaining law and order will be equipped with bodycams.

The bodycams being procured by the Jammu Kashmir Police are state-of-the-art.

“It will work perfectly in maximum temperature of minus 30 degrees Celsius below minus and up to 60 degrees Celsius above zero,” the Police official said.

The official said that no police officer will be able to tamper in any way in the recording and photograph taken by him. He will also not be able to delete their data.

“It will be equipped with night vision and infra LED lights. These cameras will be in the helmets on the chest or head of the soldiers and officers,” he added.
