NC asks admin to alleviate sufferings of people propelled by heavy snowfall

The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Member of Parliament from Anantnag Hasnain Masoodi on Saturday impressed upon the divisional administration to rise up to the exigencies emanating in wake of heavy snowfall in South Kashmir districts.

While calling for an immediate redressal of grievances of the general public in view of snowfall in the last two days, Masoodi made phone calls to respective district commissioners of South Kashmir and impressed upon them to ensure that surface connectivity and public utility services are restored in all South Kashmir districts forthwith.

Drawing the attention of the district commissioners of Pulwama, Anantnag, Shopian, and Kulgam towards the plight of people, Masoodi implored upon them to issue directions to the concerned department invested with the task of clearance of snow on roads for prompt action to alleviate miseries of people due to heavy snowfall in the Valley. He also asked the district commissioners to acquire intermittent briefs from concerned PDD, PHE, FCSCA officials about the status of the restoration of power supply, clearance of snow from the roads, adequacy of food items, fuel, water supply, availability of medicines and other basic amenities in areas of South Kashmir.

As the disaster management authority has issued avalanche warnings for higher reaches of Kashmir, Masoodi contended that it was incumbent upon local district administration to spot those areas and ensure safety and security of people living there.  He impressed upon the respective district commissioners to ensure the safety of people in the avalanche prone areas of Shahbad Bala, Sallar, Pahalgam, Kokernag (Anantnag), Devsar, Damhal Hanji Pora (Kulgam), and in  Waltangu nar, Nigeen pura, Gopalpura, Pav Padan hamlets of other South Kashmir districts.

Meanwhile, State Secretary Sakina Itoo has asked District Administration Kulgam to ensure that roads are cleared and people are able to move freely to health facilities. She has impressed upon the administration to ensure that electricity, water supply is restored in far flung areas of the district.

South Zone President Dr Bashir Veeri has also expressed dismay over the damage caused to orchards following heavy snowfall in the area. He has also requested administration to ensure road connectivity and water supply in the affected areas. (GNS)
