A 30-year-old woman was found dead at the house of her in-laws in the Harnag area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Speaking to The Kashmiriyat, a family member of the woman who originally was a resident of Shehlipora, Dialgam said that the woman (name withheld) was murdered by her in-laws over ‘dowry issue.’
“She had a baby six months ago. She returned to her in-laws’ house a couple of months back and was being constantly harassed since then. She has been poisoned,” her relative said.
The family members who had reached District Hospital, Anantnag spoke to The Kashmiriyat and said that they got to hear the news of her death from some locals near her in-laws’ house, after which she was immediately rushed to the hospital, where she was found dead.
They alleged that the in-laws of the deceased woman did not even take her body home for the last rites. They, in fact, kept it at the hospital.
Later, the family staged a protest and demanded stringent punishment against the in-laws. “The officials should act against the culprits so that nobody has to face such things in the future,” a protesting relative said.
The mother-in-law of the deceased while narrating the incident to The Kashmiriyat said that her daughter-in-law suddenly fell unconscious in the morning after giving a tiffin box to her husband. “She woke up in the morning and served tea to the family after that she gave me a hot water rubber bottle as I was not feeling well,” she said.
She further added, “she then went out to give tiffin box to her husband who was leaving for work but as soon as she gave him tiffin box, she suddenly fell unconscious. We rushed her to hospital, she was still breathing but wasn’t able to talk.”
Refuting the allegations of domestic violence, she said that the relationship of her husband and other members of the family with her have always been cordial. “I wish she comes back to life and proves our innocence. my other daughter-in-law can also confirm the same.”
“Her family members of the deceased have conducted her autopsy, the reports of which also declare heart attack,” her mother-in-law said.
Hospital sources said that a preliminary medical report suggests that the woman died of a cardiac arrest.
Meanwhile, the Principal GMC, Anantnag, Mr. Tariq Qureshi also confirmed that the deceased had suffered a Heart Attack. However, he added that an Autopsy report of the dead body are awaited yet.
The Kashmiriyat spoke to a Police officer who said that Police has launched an investigation into the incident. “Her body was given for autopsy, we will have to wait for the reports,” he said.
