Kashmir Times editor, Anuradha Bhasin selected for JSK journalism fellowship

Prominent Journalist from Jammu Kashmir and the editor of Kashmir’s oldest English newspaper, Kashmir Times- Anuradha has been selected for John S. Knight (JSK) international Journalism Fellowship for the year 2022-23.

Anuradha Bhasin has been one of the most vocal journalists speaking constantly against the ongoing intimidation of journalists in Jammu Kashmir and elsewhere. She also filed a petition in the Supreme court against the months-long internet snap down in the region post the unilateral abrogation of Article 370 on August 05, 2019.

The office of Kashmir Times was shut in Srinagar and she was ‘forcibly evicted from her Government accommodation in Jammu.

Anuradha Bhasin is among five “Journalism leaders” to be selected to the fellowship program for the Class of 2022-23.

“Journalists around the world are being exposed to a new level of hostility by repressive and authoritarian regimes, resulting in a dramatic deterioration of press freedom,” Dawn Garcia, JSK director said.

According to the JSK website, the program that will commence in September will pursue a range of innovative ideas that seek to champion press freedom in a world where journalists and independent media are increasingly under attack.

The program is focussed on journalists from places where governments are aggressively trying to stop journalists and their newsrooms from doing their work. Included in that focus are journalists from polarized nations hostile to journalism, often resulting in dangerous misinformation for its citizens.
